Clarinet artist Laura Carmichael's first solo recording traces her own musical journey from San Francisco in the '90s to Amsterdam in the '00s. Side trips to Japan, war zone visitations, imaginary conversations with the dead, shimmering ancient cities, dust, determination, broken records, love lost and found, jazz longings, a leaning towards Judaism - it's all reflected in this personal work. Many of today's leading composers are represented here, including five premier recordings, all impeccably played with Carmichael's lush tone.
